Weather trends?

Forecasts of the effects of global climate change tend to focus on the increased likelihood of storms and generally more extreme weather in Western Europe. It seems reasonable to assume that this may be reflected in an increased diurnal temperature range, and the chart below shows the annual average of diurnal temperature range over the years.

I fully appreciate that trends are unlikely to become apparent over such a short timescale, but note that the linear trendline here is gently upwards, towards a greater range of temperature: make of that what you will!

The next chart displays annual rainfall, year by year, over the same period. By contrast with the first, the trendline is dead level, hence I omitted it. As this graph shows, rainfall fluctuates far more year by year, hence it would need a far longer period to show any significant trend.
